PROGRAM CONTENT

This assembly is designed to acquaint students with one of the most influential persons of our country’s history. By his strong convictions to advocate for the civil rights for all people (regardless of color), Dr. King has in some way touched the lives of everyone. The assembly begins with a dramatization of Rosa Parks and then is followed by a historically focused poem about Martin Luther King, Jr. The program continues with an innovative activity that provides the students with a personal experience with color discrimination. The assembly’s closure is upbeat and motivational with the inclusion of a participatory song that offers a way to bring peace to the world and celebrate our differences. SPECIAL EMPHASIS IS INCLUDED TO ADDRESS BULLYING AND OTHER ACTS OF DISRESPECT. The program lasts for approximately 45 minutes and works best with 400 students. For schools with larger populations higher cost will be negotiated. It may be necessary to schedule more than one assembly. (Note: discount is given for 2 or more assemblies)

Please plan to give each child the appropriate color assignment. To conserve paper and maximize the effects, please give each child a bookmark size strip of their assigned color (Suggestion: use the strip for “Peace” bookmark later). K – Purple 4 – Purple 1 – Orange 5 – Orange 2 – Green 6 – Green 3 – Blue
